Indiana Academic Standards
The Indiana Academic Standards are the academic content and skills. Indiana students need to master at each grade level. Within each content area in order to be prepared for both college and career opportunities. The standards are revised periodically by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). And the State Board of Education (SBOE) to reflect the latest research and best practices in education.
The latest revisions and adoptions of the standards are as follows:
- English/Language Arts (2023): These standards define what students should know and be able to do in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and media literacy. The standards are organized by grade level from K-8 and by course for grades 9-12. The standards emphasize the integration of language skills and the development of critical thinking and communication skills. The standards were adopted by the SBOE on June 7, 2023.
- Mathematics (2023): These standards define what students should understand and be able to do in mathematics from kindergarten through high school. The standards are organized by domains, clusters, and standards for each grade level or course. The standards focus on conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application of mathematical practices. The standards were adopted by the SBOE on June 7, 2023.

- Science & Computer Science (2023): These standards define what students should know and be able to do in science and computer science from kindergarten through high school. The standards are organized by disciplinary core ideas and crosscutting concepts. And science and engineering practices for science, and by concepts, practices, and perspectives for computer science. The standards aim to foster students’ curiosity, creativity, and innovation in solving real-world problems. The standards were adopted by the SBOE on June 7, 2023.
- Social Studies (2023): These standards define what students should know and be able to do in social studies from kindergarten through high school. The standards are organized by strands, topics, and standards for each grade level or course. The strands are history, geography, civics and government, and economics. The standards emphasize the development of historical thinking skills, geographic literacy, civic engagement, and economic reasoning. The standards were adopted by the SBOE on June 7, 2023.
Indiana Academic Standards for Arts
The Indiana Academic Standards for Arts are the academic content and skills that Indiana students need to master in the areas of dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. Here the standards are based on the National Coalition for Arts Standards and consist of anchor standards, enduring understandings, and essential questions.
The standards are organized by grade level from kindergarten to grade 12 and are defined. What students should know and be able to do. When participating in various forms of artistic expression. The standards were adopted by the State Board of Education on June 7, 2023.
